Optin is a private registered company located in Johannesburg South Africa. Optin solves dififcult problems where no "off-the-shelf" solutions exist. We pride ourselves on adding real-value through the deployment of  working, AI-based software solutions. Key to this is a highly ethical and honest approach with clients, where safety, IP and client confidentiality is paramount. We serve the whole world. 

 

Optin was founded by Tony Lange in 2001 and is a continuation of a number of companies that began with SWF-KE (1990), following on with KBE(1991), and Best (Pty) Ltd (1999), where the focus was intelligent and optimal solutions for businesses and industry.

Tony started in 1984 in the Measurement and Control Division at Mintek (The South African Council for Mineral Technology), where he invented numerous solutions for problems in the mineral and metallurgical industry a number of which which were patented. This included on-line image processing for rock size measurement, bubble measurement for flotation, spiral control, viscosity meters, sinter measurements, amongst others.

 

​Clients of Optin and Tony include, Mining and Metallurgical Industries, Telecommunications, Cement and Lime, Medical, Security, Water and Power utilities, Petrochemical, general Manufacturing,  Transport and Logistics companies.

Optin's specialities include both online and offline INTELLIGENT applications, most based on the real-time expert system G2. He has also held positions as Director and VP Intelligent Solutions at Gensym who make G2.  We are measurement and control specialists, and mathematics and physics are corner stones. Solutions include process control and optimization as well as the unique hybrid MPC applied to mineral processing and Cement . Other solutions include intelligent SCADA, energy control, security, root cause analysis, soft sensors, and analytics, as well online real-time machine-vision solutions for intelligent monitoring of industrial processes for both optimization and safety. Plant uptime and robust solutions are key objectives.

Real-time solutions require special engineering and the issues around real-time and associated communications are well understood and engineered to work properly.

Optin operates independently as well as by forming partnerships or consortiums with other entities and companies. We subcontract experts and engineers as required. The vast engineering and control experience within Optin and its affiliates ensures that solutions are real, add value, and are performed within project constraints.

Tony is a registered Professional Engineer (PrEng). He has a PhD in Electrical and Electronic engineering. His passion is to solve real-world problems with real robust solutions, that are deemed extremely difficult, and not "off-the-shelf".

His skills encompass control, signal processing, process and data analysis, artificial intelligence, image processing, electronic systems, software and general systems development, underpined by physics and mathematics. He has a number of patents in control, image processing and has published on for example real-time solutions, G2, and cement optimization. 

​

He is passionate about swimming, windsurfing, chess, photography, dogs, gardening, and protecting environment.
