Lime Kiln Optimisation

Optin has developed a Hybrid MPC Lime kiln controller. The controller is a multivariable controller based on model-based predictive (MPC) controller. This controller is embedded in a real-time expert system, for effectively provide a "hybrid" controller.

A real solution  

This controller controls Lime production, energy consumption and quality of Lime being produced in a horizontal kiln with preheater and cooler. In addition to Lime production, the controller also looks at various unique issues or process control problems with the total plant, such as

• equipment health monitoring

• Alternative fuels monitoring and optimisation

• Finished product storage and optimisation

Hybrid Intelligent Solution

The MPC control solution is wrapped in the G2 expert system. This combination of advanced and optimal MPC together with an Expert System means the MPC controller can work in a better and more reliable fashion. For example, if a sensor fails, G2 tries to compensate in real-time with derived or calculated values or even shuts off the control of the part of the controller where there is no alternative solution for the  failed sensor
